House backs off 7.5 percent pay cut for state workers
On Monday the House Appropriations Committee retreated from a 7.5 percent pay cut plan for state employees. The revised proposal limits cuts to officers, high earners, and those earning over 100000, trimming projected savings to under 1 million. The move follows opposition from the Kansas Organization of State Employees and concerns over essential services. The full budget, including Gov Brownback’s school aid cut, moves to the House for consideration.

Kobach cites larger election fraud scope in Kansas
Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach told lawmakers that election fraud is far more widespread than previously thought based on 59 reports involving at least 221 ballots since 1997. He said the figures likely understate actual incidents, as critics warn the plan may suppress minority turnout and impose stricter identification rules for first time voters.
