Mrs Pontius to Observe 100th Birthday in West Haven Home
Mrs Arthur C Pontius who has lived in Lawrence since 1870 will celebrate her 100th birthday at the West Haven Rest Home 301 Miss St with most of her seven surviving children present. Born in Monroe Wisconsin she moved to Lawrence as a child and raised a large family including three of her Lawrence children Carroll Harold and Ernest Pontius. She and her late husband had nine children and 23 grandchildren 33 great grandchildren. She is affectionately known as Aunt Belle and is survived by many relatives and a long line of longevity in the Richardson family.

Project 800 plan delayed by extreme cold weather
Extreme cold halted work on the Project 800 underground power project in the south third of the 800 block of Massachusetts. Kansas Power and Light planned to supply the area with new subterranean cables serving businesses, but the cold postponed construction. The completed complex promises a 136 car lot, rear massachusetts entrances, a block-long canopy, underground power and communications, landscaping, and removal of overhead lines and poles.
