Kansas education funding ruled unconstitutional by court
A three judge panel in Topeka ruled that overall funding for public education in Kansas is inadequate and unconstitutional. It also deemed local option budgets unconstitutional as underfunding forces districts to use property tax funded local budgets to meet state requirements. The panel suggested at least 548 million dollars in additional base funding to reach 4 654 dollars per pupil, the inflation adjusted amount from its January 2013 order.
