Ursuline nuns plan to leave Paola and merge with Kentucky order

After 113 years in eastern Kansas the Ursuline sisters will depart in year and merge with an order in Kentucky. They will sell the Paola convent of 64,000 square feet and 36.5 acres for 8.5 million, leaving a legacy of schools serving over 50,000 students and Lakemary Center as a notable achievement. The move reflects a broader trend of religious orders shrinking as numbers decline and aging sisters dominate the ranks.
