Millennium Pharmaceuticals and Hoffmann La Roche report in Cell that a brain receptor for leptin may be the key to overcoming obesity. Obese individuals show high leptin levels, suggesting receptor pathway resistance. Researchers locate the receptor in the choroid plexus and hypothalamus as efforts to bypass resistance begin. Americans spend $33 billion yearly on weight loss.
