Ogden Sherman Jones Dies at 61 in Lawrence
Ogden Sherman Jones, 61, of 226 Park Ave, died Sunday from a heart ailment after a three year struggle. A geologist, he long worked with the state connected water laboratory at the University of Kansas and was active in civic and university affairs. Born May 23, 1891 in Ogden Utah, he moved with his parents to Lawrence at age five. He attended KU as a track and pole vault athlete, left to serve in World War I, and later trained as a pilot at Berkeley. He served as a flying instructor at Brooks Field until January after the Armistice, then returned to geology with several firms and his own business before joining KU as chief geologist in charge of the oil fields section of the Division of Sanitation.
