City accepts final transit study draft in Lawrence

Lawrence city commissioners received the $20 000 Lawrence transit development program final draft. The plan keeps independent operation of buses cabs and mini buses and rejects a local transit authority creation. Mayor Argersinger questions forming a Transportation Services Advisory Committee and foresees a January study session.

Gas firm announces refunds and lower rates

Kansas Public Service Co the Lawrence natural gas distributor will issue refunds and lower rates after an agreement between Cities Service Gas Co and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission Chief operating officer William Salome said official word has arrived and the adjustment stems from a January 1977 rate increase Kansas Public Service did not charge local customers for until August due to an accounting error Salome said refunds are likely and the rate cut could begin this month with an estimated typical saving of about $1 per month.

Three Johnson County Men Charged in Lawrence Fur Robbery

Three men from DeSoto and Merriam were held on aggravated robbery charges after a Monday night holdup at Wales Raw Furs in Lawrence. About 250 fur pelts valued at over 7600 dollars and a handgun were stolen. one victim suffered a minor head injury from a rifle butt. The suspects were arrested Tuesday night on I 35 near Wellsville, with pelts recovered in the truck.

Mitchell leaves prison on medical furlough in cold

Former attorney general John N. Mitchell leaves Maxwell Prison Camp for a medical furlough to assess arthritic hip surgery needs. He agreed to return by Jan. 15 to complete a 1 1/2 to 4 year Watergate sentence and remains eligible for parole in June.

State to lease Beechcraft as Kansas official plane

Gov. Bennett will use a Beech twin engine turboprop as Kansas official aircraft replacing the grounded Cesna.
