Chicago December 28 report that the Santa Fe railroad will inaugurate a pension system January 1 aimed at old employes’ welfare and better service. Eligibility requires fifteen years of continuous service and either age five or permanent disability. Benefits are a percentage of salary with a minimum twenty dollars monthly, potentially rising to twenty five percent with board and president approval for long service.
Three inmates escaped last night from the Jefferson City penitentiary power walls and rode sixty miles toward St Louis in a passenger train. New York, Dec. 26. George W. Perkins former vice president of New York Life Insurance and Courtke S. Fairchild former secretary of the treasury and NY Life trustee were indicted today by the grand jury on the charge of false statements to Prussia to satisfy its government about securities held by the company. Perkins appeared in court posting bond of twenty thousand dollars. Fairchild, a defendant in the long investigation of the NY Life Insurance, was cited for the grand jury inquiry into insurance company practices. The case signals a deepening government probe into high finance and the role of NY Life in securities transactions.

Mrs. F L Clark of Oklahoma City says she was not asked to identify a soldier in El Reno and was shoved aside by a negro soldier yesterday. Nearby reports say several soldiers were arrested but none believed to be the culprit. Excitement over the incident was brief. In Norfolk a physician, Dr. Chas I Culpepper, shot himself after executing deeds giving his wife properties in Norfolk and Portsmouth, then informed the county clerk to keep deeds open for transfer.
London reports continuing heavy snowfall seen as the worst in thirty years across Great Britain and similar conditions across Europe. Trains are halted by snow drifts while a Covent Garden warehouse roof collapse endangers forty to fifty women, with eight injuries and most rescued.
Daniel F Loveland of Sandusky Ohio, son of a merchant, has been detained twice for alleged forgery and released with orders to avoid police. A telegram from Elyria said he is wanted, then another said not to detain him. Loveland insists on being sent back to Ohio to atone for his alleged crime.
