Chinese military activity guided by Japanese instructors alarms Russia expanding the crisis involving France Russia and Anglo Japanese treaties.
Kansas City December 28 The Russian government placed an order with Armour for 1 500 100 pounds of meat to be shipped to San Francisco for delivery by January 2 The meat is said for the Russian army and Fort Arthur The order began last week and already about a third has started west The San Francisco packing house branch handled the order and it is unclear if further orders will follow The beef is intended for long storage and preservation
Jon Thompson and Frank Starris, Hutchinson, were jailed after authorities charged them with attempting to kill Si mon Nusbaum nine miles south of town. The pair, who went hunting, shot at Nusbaum after his reproach over their shooting of Nusbaum’s chickens.
In Washington on December 23 diplomats report Colombia plans to close its legation and return home as hopes for a satisfactory response fade. Meanwhile in New Orleans on December 28 the cotton market traded with prices 28 to 47 points higher, large profit taking, yet prices held firm.
Colonel Henry L. Thomas, who served as a state department translator for thirty four years, died today in Washington at age sixty eight. His long career spanned many diplomatic assignments and language duties for the department.
Brown County Kansas sheriff has served numerous tax delinquents after a 1901 law allowing county attorneys to sue delinquent taxpayers. County Attorney Means has filed suits against 120 individuals, including some prominent citizens. Philadelphia dispatch reports auxiliary cruiser Dixie carrying 600 marines and five months of flying and fighting supplies for 1 000 men. Four inmates escaped from the county jail early today. Authorities believe friends aided the break. The escapees are Mack, Marty, Johnson, and Charles Suspeon, all under sentence at Lansing Wan and Uhtrry souith awaiting trial. The quartet stole two horses near town and was last seen headed south.
In St Joseph Missouri on December 28, Harlington road superintendent Perkins received a letter with a demand of five dollars. The writer named Odell Curder threatened to kill Perkins on sight if payment was not made by Sunday night. Perkins gave the letter to police authorities for action.
