Snow sticks as cold snaps linger in northeast Kansas
Meteorologist Emily Heller of the National Weather Service in Topeka says a half inch of snow from Tuesday remains and will not melt quickly. Temperatures will stay near or below freezing with a warming trend only on Thursday and Friday reaching the 20s before a return to mid teen highs over the weekend, with a chance of more snow Saturday into Sunday.

City floods Watson Park for temporary skating rink

KDHE reports Kansas infant mortality at 5.9 per 1000 live births in 2016, near the national average. White non-Hispanic infants die at 5.2 per 1000, Hispanic at 5.1, while African-American infants face 15.2 per 1000, in both neonatal and postneonatal periods. KDHE spokesman Jerry Kratochvil cannot explain the disparity.
