MIT study links NMDA gene loss to spatial memory in mice

MIT researchers led by Susumu Tonegawa and Matthew Wilson showed that turning off the NMDA receptor gene in hippocampal pyramidal cells disrupts mice ability to form spatial maps. The work, reported in Cell, supports a universal mechanism likely present in humans and highlights gene knockout as a key research tool.
