Foch warning stirs French chamber over Rhineland evacuation
Paris Dec 27 AP A secret note by the late Marshal Foch warning against premature Rhineland evacuation sparked a parliamentary storm. Foreign Minister Briand expressed astonishment that he had not known of the document. Briand accused M Reibel of displaying the note, and Foch’s letter warned Germany’s growing strength and vengeance risks if France delays frontier defense as Versailles would permit. Briand denounced the disclosure and defended Foch’s memory, while Franklin-Bouillon pressed for cabinet changes over Hague talks and the Locarno pact controversy.
