Dr Joseph F Piesen a Chicago packing firm department superintendent died after a nose fracture from a fall in a laboratory and a later convulsion from lockjaw. He had directed family to hospital care and died of heart failure following the convulsion amidst a failing recovery.
An old newspaper fragment advertises magazine subscriptions at 1908 rates with price guarantees and combinations. It also lists the Bobectaon Undertaking Co as embalmers and directors offering private funerals and cremation services at 903 Massachusetts Street with phone numbers, plus mantel items and fixtures marketed by LaF Conklin at 896 Mason Street.
A collision on elevated tracks near a Pennsylvania railroad station killed three people and wounded seventeen. The Pemberton accommodation rear-ended the Atlantic City express amid fog. heroism by an engineer and Camden fire crews helped save lives while rescue operations continued.
In Vandalia depot robbery aftermath near Smithboro Illinois two robbers were shot five times and city marshal Emory Brown was wounded twice both in serious condition. In Peoria Illinois Dougherty former bank president arrives at court with a suitcase of checks to challenge the School Board bill of particulars. He testifies he met the bills before due and before board approval, deferring to his own bank account. Attorney Fuller seeks to exclude the checks citing statute of limitations.
Miss Mona Eberly hosts Lion friends for informal dinner. Maude Hunter to host for Ebner Hunter of Joplin and Mr. and Mrs. Will Powell. Knights and Ladies of Security dinner at home on Christmas Day with team committee. Agnes Urland and Begsie Raymunl to host chocolate Monday afternoon at Miss Raymond or Miss Margaret Wilber home. Marjorie Buwersock entertained twelve friends with a box gift. Lillie Williams and Tavile Warfield plan dinner and car party in Cable Williams home at Kansas City with Margaret Crow of Montgomery. The Firemen Ball last evening drew about two hundred fifty guests. Summer's orchestra provided music. Prof. and Mrs. Holach hosted twenty eight children with refreshments and Japanese candy boxes. J L Adams host for four course dinner with guests from Topeka, Gage, Sherman, and Lawrence.
Fire at John Clark’s Watertown home destroys the house after 1 am. Neighbors find the father John Clark and two sons Joby and Philip among the bodies. the mother and daughter Doris remain missing as firefighters continue search once ruins cool. Clark worked as a salesman in a seed store.
A Christmas night riot in Portland driven by the belief that a prominent citizen was murdered at a Chinese restaurant left the Oriental quarter wrecked. Fifteen hundred men attacked, smashing restaurants laundries and fronts. local police were overwhelmed and mounted police restored order.
Nelson Thrailkeld, a farmer near Lawrence Kansas, testified before the grand jury after being robbed of 120 dollars on a Fifth street car. Frank King and Harry Brown were arrested and identified, indicted by the grand jury, and the money was restored. Thrailkeld planned to use the funds to erect a tombstone for his son.
Purely personal items report E E Kinzer of Bad- twin and Miss Lena Davis of Wichita in town. Adolph Lotz of Eudora, D L Barton of Willows Springs Township, and J M Davis of New York founder of Friends University in Wichita were seen in Lawrence. G C Stewart opens a real estate office in the area. Herman Bailey and wife of Kiowa visit C R Anderson. Bailey and Anderson traveled to Kansas together forty years ago and plan a New Hampshire style celebration through New Year’s Eve. Bailey hasn’t seen Lawrence since the 1890s and notes many changes over 28 to 29 years.
A New Orleans dispatch reports a cargo of groceries consigned to the Honduran government aboard the Alps last week, tied to Adler & Company now in receivership. The note cites investigations and unsettled shipments as markets reflect mixed signals with wheat corn and hog prices moving in late December trading.

Miss Marie Arnold of Denver married Albine Chavarria, chief of the Santa Clara Indians, in Santa Fe last Monday. The couple met five years ago during the Mountain and Plain festival and faced family opposition before obtaining consent from Miss Arnold’s sisters. The ceremony was performed by Rev Rendon with several of the bride’s sisters as witnesses.
Frank M. Corey of Sparta New Jersey dies age about 50s or 60s after moving to Kansas in 1878. He lived near Eudora then Lawrence to educate his children. Funeral is set for tomorrow at 2 30 from the family home. He was nephew to Mr and Mrs Robert Morrow.
In Emporia the poet Harry Kemp was arrested after officers mistook a poet in South Park for a criminal. Kemp pleaded innocence, was searched and questioned for nearly an hour before being released. He then vented his frustration at police overreach.

Armed white patrols mobilize, militia may be sent, and sheriff and governor vow to enforce law and prosecute lynchers while calm is sought in a town with large shack-dwellings and displaced Black residents.
In Camden Point Missouri thirty miles southeast of St. Joseph at 2 AM robbers attacked the bank stealing about 2500 dollars, including 1000 in silver. A fierce exchange of shots with citizens followed and the bandits were driven to woods near Edgerton Junction. They were captured at 8 AM and jailed in Platte City. The money was later found in a straw stack. Clyde Reed, 25, of Edgerton identified.
