Teachers Institute Seeks Douglas County Teacher Union

The first meeting of the season for Douglas county teachers was held at the Court House last Saturday with over fifty in attendance. Superintendent Dinsmore chaired. J. B. Vaughn elected secretary pro tem. a committee for permanent organization appointed. Discussion covered primary reading methods and the will as a factor in education, weighing multiple approaches and stressing practical student impact. The group planned the next session for January at the Court House, including devotional exercises and papers on grading country schools and language lessons. The entry ends with a social note about a Christmas birthday party hosted by Mrs. Warne for eight prominent society members and a long guest list detailing attendees and outfits.

War in the Territory sparks creek conflict near Okmulgee

The first open hostilities of the Creek Indian war erupted Sunday east of Okmulgee. A Checotes band led by Jim Larnay fought about 200 Spiechees under McKarochee for an hour, then retreated while still exchanging fire for ten miles. Casualties include Bob Carr, Dave Barrett and a wife, and a Walsh. U.S. troops disarmed 150 Checotes men and the army will pursue disarmament. Spiechecs demand rights and an investigation by the U.S. Commissioner. United States Agent Toffta visited the scene.

Sprague Estate Trustee Seeks Dividend and Sale Approval

Providence December 26 S E Shaffee trustee and assignee of the A and W Sprague estate petitions the Supreme Court for authority to pay a dividend to trust creditors with about 800000 on hand. He also files a bill praying for a decree to sell Quidneck Company stock pledged to Sprague indebtedness, 4022 of 4346 shares. The hearing on the first application is set for Saturday.

Industrial layoffs hit Chester mills and works

Chester December 26 Shaw and Estys woolen mills Wetherill and Co machine works and other major industrial establishments have closed temporarily due to dull trade. Large numbers of workmen are unemployed.

Lillian Spencer was accidentally shot during the finale of the first act of Article 47 at the Academy of Music in Rochester. Duhamel fired a blank from too close, striking Spencer in the ear. the injury is described as not serious.
