Blue Santa Ramsey details record 322 families aided this year

Lawrence Blue Santa Ramsey reports gifts reached 322 families and about 600 children with each delivery including a ham and a $25 Dillons gift card. The program spent roughly $8,000 on gift cards and $4,000 on hams, stopped accepting new applications early due to high demand, and relied entirely on donations from the community and law enforcement. Ramsey highlighted gratitude, online applications, porch drop-offs, and continued donor outreach.

Drop in Douglas County felonies and misdemeanors drives court shifts

Fiscal years 1995 through 2019 show the Douglas County District Court peaking at 2184 felonies and misdemeanors in 2006, then declining below 1225 annually since 2012. FY 2019 totals: 1135 criminal cases, 470 misdemeanors, and 665 felonies, with changes in charging practices lowering misdemeanor counts. Redistribution to municipal and traffic courts reduced case inflows, while Branson notes ongoing efforts toward diversion and selective charging amid evolving policies.
