Famous Lincoln Tree Is Removed Landmark Lincoln Shadow Gone
The Abraham Lincoln tree on the southwest corner of Tenth and Tennessee streets in Lawrence has been cut down after more than forty years as a city landmark. A stump remains that still casts the famed Lincoln shadow on the brick sidewalk, once celebrated by residents for evening viewing. An illustration from 1913 and a photograph in the state museum accompany the report.
