In a Paris hearing over which Edmund Kelley of the American embassy presided, Dr. Drepauleau protested an insult to his honor after being accused of bankruptcy by a lawyer for Mrs. Vanderbilt and Mrs. Oelrichs. The court erupted as he demanded satisfaction, threatening to dispatch his seconds, but the challenge was withdrawn amid clashes among spectators.
In New York on December 25, over 100 employees laid off temporarily by Remington Typewriter Company receive a year end bonus of 40 dollars each as a gift from the firm. Longtime employees at the plant gain shares of the bonus, while the total distributed reaches around thirteen thousand dollars.
