Old Hometown 150 in 1874 and 1924 Holiday Notes
The Western Home Journal reports on 1874 street corn prices at about 75 cents a bushel, thefts in Douglas county, timber shipments for the Wakarusa bridge, cattle dealings near town, and a note on strontium chemistry and a Professor Mudge geology lecture. A Plymouth Congregational festival at Liberty Hall draws a packed crowd amid praise. The Lawrence Daily Journal-World in 1924 notes Christmas weather, sleigh bells, and snow, plus charity efforts by the American Legion delivering 115 holiday food baskets and a Christmas jail dinner.
