Monroe estate auction yields coveted Gibson mandolin and ring
About 100 Bill Monroe memorabilia items were sold at the Country Music Hall of Fame auction. The pear inlaid Gibson mandolin sold for 22000 dollars and a ring brought 6500 dollars. Proceeds support the Hall of Fame while clearing stored items from Monroe’s estate. Monroe died in 1996 at 84 and helped popularize bluegrass.
