Terese Gorman city engineer released figures showing the 15th Street west of Wakarusa extension cost 1 847 151 41 for construction with 1 186 304 28 paid by surrounding property owners and 660 847 13 by city taxpayers. The total project cost 2 123 622 92 splits to 1 363 863 81 for owners and 759 759 11 funded by city taxpayers.

Lawrence resident Hemant Bhana, a University of North Dakota Aerospace senior with a 3.57 GPA, received the Weather Modification Aviation Award at the 22nd Alumni Aviation Banquet after completing a United Airlines and Weather Modification internship. The award honors academic excellence and pilot internship participation. The Douglas County Community Transportation Coordinating Council will hold its annual membership meeting at 10:30 a.m. Friday in City Hall.

Julius Miller Jr., 20, was found guilty of attempted voluntary manslaughter in Douglas County. A mistrial on two counts of aggravated intimidation of a witness led to plans for a retrial. Miller faces sentencing on January 22 for the manslaughter conviction while awaiting outcomes on the witness intimidation charges.
Lawrence police report arrests include David Lee Gragg for theft after a 1700 plus dollar check to Sunrise Village owners was cashed by him. Raymond Lynn Johnson faces aggravated assault domestic battery and criminal damage after an incident at Crossgate residence. Kip Louthen arrested for aggravated burglary after entering a neighbor apartment attic via complex at 700 Monterey Way. Vehicle break in reported on Gateway with a $1030 theft and $100 damage.
