Deaths Hortense Sanders 95 to have graveside service in Mattoon
Hortense Alice Marie Sanders 95 of Lawrence will be laid to rest at Dodge Grove Cemetery Mattoon Illinois Saturday morning. Died Monday December 22 2008 at Brandon Woods at Alvamar she was born November 8 1913 in Los Angeles and raised in Eureka. She earned an associate degree from St John Lutheran Winfield 1932 and a BS in business from Kansas University in 1938. She was a volunteer at Calvary Lutheran Church Truman Medical Center and worked as senior accountant for Trans World Airlines over 50 years and at H R Block. She moved to Lawrence in 2004. Survivors include niece Mary Nichols and nephew Howard Pankratz with others. Memorials suggested Heart of American Hospice care of Johnson County Funeral Chapel.

Ground broken for Dodge City casino project in Kansas
Olathe based Butler National Corp began work on a western themed hotel and casino in Dodge City, the first of four proposed state owned casinos to move forward amid financial turmoil. The $88 million complex aims to open part of the casino by December 2009 with full completion by 2011, and is expected to generate about $50 million in revenue for 2012.
