In Girard, a man shot and killed his estranged wife before killing himself outside a southeast Kansas convenience store. authorities identified Bradley J. Shaffer as the shooter and Andrea R. Shaffer as the victim, with Andrea having filed for divorce on November 6. Col. Ed McIlhenny was named chief of staff of the Kansas Air National Guard.
