Christmas Celebration Starts Early At President's Independence Home
President Truman enjoyed a brisk Christmas morning at the White House, greeting neighbors and waving to onlookers from the porch. He walked two miles before breakfast, wore a blue coat, and carried a cane, while Mrs. Truman and Margaret appeared on the front steps. The president planned work after breakfast, including budget and economic messages, as preparations for the new Congress continued. He kept a low profile, listening from his study as carolers from Willi Chosman High School performed nearby.
