Three thousand Kansas miners walked out while leader Howat was released on bail today. He vowed to work toward ending the strike as seventeen mines remained idle. International Headquarters in Indianapolis reported no advance word on Kansas action.
Indianapolis December 26 Alexander Howat president of the Kansas district United Mine Workers released from Marion county jail by federal Judge Anderson. Howat agreed to train international miners officials and send telegrams to Kansas executive board to end strikes. Hearings set for next Monday on contempt charges may be continued. William Green urged the plan. Concurrently Kansas mines idle as 3,000 miners strike in protest. Crowe’s men return to work. Officials in Indianapolis said strike appears voluntary. Topeka watchers note state receivership of coal mines may extend if needed.

Haskell Institute solved oil storage shortage by cleaning long unused water cisterns with 90 000 gallon capacity. Intermittent fuel oil supply issues eased as cleaned cisterns were filled, allowing shipments as demand fluctuates and cars become available.
