OnStar users face service loss as analog network dies
The 2002 FCC decision to end analog cell networks by February 18, 2008 will strand about 500,000 OnStar equipped cars and potentially a million cell phones. GM and Mercedes face possible class action suits as older OnStar cars cannot be upgraded. Alarms still using analog links number roughly 138,000, with some digital alarm systems using analog subchannels.
