The Board of Education approved a plan to have Edison Schools Inc run the five lowest-rated campuses in the city. If approved by parents, the schools would become charter schools with Edison managing instruction. About 5,000 students could transfer to the private program beginning next fall.
Edward Lee Elmore, Black death row inmate, lost a bid for a new trial 18 years after the murder of Dorothy Edwards. DNA tests found a Caucasian hair not hers, but prosecutors argued over 40 hairs matched Elmore.
