State Treasurer Tom R. Van Sickle announced that Kansas counties received 1.80 million in cigarette tax revenue for the quarter ending Nov 30. County shares ranged from 262 178.50 for Sedgwick to 1 674.66 for Greeley.
Tony Boyle the 72 year old former United Mine Workers president began a three year term in the U S prison system Medical Center in Springfield for misusing union funds. He had spent most of his time in a Washington D C hospital after a suicide attempt. He faces state murder charges in the Dec 31 1969 killings of union rival Joseph A Yablonski and his family. Judge Sweet set Jan 28 as earliest trial date. Boyle could face life if convicted. He is kept in a private room at the Medical Center for evaluation and care.
A tentative February 19 trial date was set for Mrs Nellie Rutledge Schoonover on a first degree murder charge in the shooting of her ninth husband J D Schoonover 80 at a farm near Ottawa in October Mrs Schoonover 48 pled innocent at a Friday hearing they were married in July at Miami Oklahoma and were involved in court actions with two of his sons over property
Edward J. Ogden 20 of Kansas City Kansas pleads guilty to attempted illegal possession of cocaine. Sentencing is Jan. 18 with $5,000 bond. arrested Dec 4 1972 for illegal sale. Jury trial in May ended in a hung jury and mistrial in Division II of Douglas County District Court.
