A North Lawrence family fled their Third Street home in night clothes as a blaze destroyed the house of James Carrier. A second fire at Walter Dunmire’s Mississippi Street home caused nearly 400 dollars in content damage from smoke and basement joists, with firefighters hampered by thick smoke. An earlier chimney fire on West Twelfth Street caused no damage.
