Cubs sign Moises Alou to three year deal
The Cubs ink outfielder Moises Alou to a $27 million, three year contract, adding a potent 3 4 5 in the lineup behind Sammy Sosa and Fred McGriff. Alou, who hit .331 with 27 homers and 108 RBIs for Houston, strengthens Chicago’s offense and stabilizes left field as part of a payroll move aided by the White Yankees winter meeting agreement. The deal includes $6 million next season, $9.5 million in 2003 and 2004, with a mutual $115 million option in 2005 and a $2 million buyout.
