Kansas City livestock market reports cattle gains of 25 to 50 higher for steers heifers and cows, with choice steers 23.50 to 24.50 and primes 24.50 to 25.00. Hogs rise 50 to 75 with barrows and gilts 190 to 250 pounds 19.75 to 20.50, sows 14.25 to 16.25. Sheep steady with wool and fall pelts around 22.00.
Kansas City AP reports wheat volumes and price ranges across grades with futures closing modestly lower after a day of mixed moves. Nearby Dec to Sep futures show narrow gains and losses, with futures edges influenced by demand and supply signals.
New York stocks fell late in the day after General Electric opened with a warning of lower earnings. The Dow eased more than ten points before recovering, with Westinghouse, Du Pont, United Aircraft and Jones & Laughlin also down. Texas Instruments, KLM, and Fairchild lost ground while Pan American Sulphur and Texas Gulf Sulphur edged higher. Trading volume was about 6.9 million shares.
Firemen made two runs on Sunday with minor damage reported. At 10 40 a.m. they attended a car fire at 322 Mich St. The damage was minor. At 2 16 p.m. they responded to a grass fire at 505 Wis St with no damage.
A 16-year-old Dearborn youth attempted to steal a Christmas tree with friends in a white car. A Dearborn police cruiser pulled up at the front of the store. the youth fled but was caught and turned over to his parents.
