A dramatic prison assault in Idaho ends with Turnkey Howard French killing inmate Samuel Halton during a struggle on the gallery. Convicts watched in panic as French and a trusty defended themselves. Halton died from a bowie knife blow after attempting to hurl French over the railing. Nine other inmates looked on, but police quelled the riot and escorted detainees to cells.
The dispute between Newark Archbishop Wigger and Hoboken Father Corrigan ends with Wigger accepting Corrigan's apology and both sides seeking reconciliation. A committee was formed to foster peace and stop further conflict.
