U S mortgage rates edge up while remaining near record lows
Freddie Mac reports the 30 year fixed rate at 3.12 percent this week up from 3.10 percent. The 15 year mortgage fell to 2.34 percent from 2.38 percent. The Fed announced it will start trimming bond purchases, a move that could lift borrowing costs. Demand for housing stays strong but buyers face low supply and prices about 20 percent higher than a year ago. Builders struggle to keep pace with demand.
