Leavenworth Kan December 18 Post master Willard announces that after January 1 the Leavenworth Post Office will be first class as annual business will exceed 340 000 dollars This change will raise the postmasters salary from 2900 to 3000 and the assistant’s to 1500 dollars Much of the volume comes from mail routed for the fort home and federal penitentiary

Grigsby Charged With Stealing From Employers

Chicago December 18 Gus A Grigsby a chemist helper at an importing firm stole from his employers while earning 39 per week. He allegedly took about 200 a day and concealed 2500 worth of vanilla beans. Authorities believe he stole between 12000 and 9000 from stock. Detective Rose of M L Bartret Company led the arrest.

California Detectives Kill Two Fugitives in Illinois Bake

California detectives Hawley Murphy and Cowen killed two men, Joseph Choisser and Louis Choisser, during a raid on a hotel room in Los Angeles after the brothers fled from Illinois. The elder Choisser drew a pistol. Louis fired next, and both were killed as officers returned fire. The officers escaped unharmed.

Anarchist Chas Merson Charged in Galveston Disorder

Galveston Texas December 14 Charles Merson a local anarchist was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct after a recorder court trial for obstructing the streets. Striking Chicago Livery Drivers Cite Wage Tradeoff

Sixteen hundred livery drivers backed by every Chicago Teamsters union walked out for higher wages. Owners refused concessions citing automobiles reducing business. Major disruption included funeral procession pickets forcing hearse and carriage drivers to abandon services. Norfolk Wrights trial flight described as three miles with a wind of twenty one miles per hour. The Wright brothers used a box kite inspired frame with dual propellers and a gasoline engine to achieve sixty feet altitude and eight miles per hour.
