Surprises At Christmas Bird Count Near Clinton Lake Dam
Two young bald eagles watched over a flock of ducks as David Seibel of Johnson County Community College and classmates joined the annual Christmas Bird Count. The tally, organized by the National Audubon Society and Jayhawk Audubon Society, spans 12 locations within a 15 mile radius and runs until dusk with a chili supper planned for final counts. Seibel, a veteran counter since 1969, led students Amelia Mallett-Kass and Nick McHugh in the morning observations near the dam as they logged species and numbers for the event.
