Afghan troop surge may take nine to eleven months
The U S commander said 30 000 additional troops may not be in place in Afghanistan until nine to eleven months from now, slower than Obama’s plan to finish by late summer. White House and defense officials affirmed a midsummer arrival for most forces, with some 4 000 to 5 000 remaining brigades arriving later. Logistics and inter theater movement from Iraq and Kuwait complicate rapid deployment as Obama aims to reach 100 000 total troops next year.
