Icy Weather Shuts In Northeast Shelter Touts Warmth
Parishioners at Jaffrey Bible Church in Jaffrey New Hampshire thanked God for a warm shelter as utility crews labored to restore power after a devastating ice storm. About 150 people attended the service where the church housed cots meals and puzzles. Utilities warned full restoration could stretch into Thursday or Friday as outages persisted across New England. Blizzard conditions in the northern Plains disrupted travel with heavy snow and closed interstates. President Bush declared a state of emergency for New Hampshire and nine Massachusetts counties, directing FEMA to provide relief.
