Cardinals Trade Tatis and Reames for Expos Pitchers
The St. Louis Cardinals shipped third baseman Fernando Tatis and reliever Britt Reames to Montreal for Dustin Hermanson and Steve Kline. GM Walt Jocketty cited a preference for trades over free agents and noted the deal strengthens the rotation with six experienced starters and a capable bullpen. Hermanson and Kline are signed through 2002 with club options, while Tatis joins a lineup offset by McGwire's health and Polanco at third base.
