Officials seek to restore faith in Kansas elections
Lawmakers and citizens met at the Statehouse for a weekend strategy session to bolster public confidence in the electoral process. Representative Kent Glasscock led discussions urging meaningful campaign finance reform by 1998, with support from groups like Common Cause and the League of Women Voters. Proposals endorsed include requiring independent groups to reveal contributors and expanding the ethics commission’s subpoena power to enforce campaign finance and ethics laws. Senate leaders prepared a reform bill for the January 12 session opening, though donor disclosure for independent expenditures faces hurdles.
