Lawrence firemen responded to two alarms on Wednesday afternoon and night. At the Kansas Power and Light Co Building 7th and Mass, boiler testing caused paint on radiators to smoke but no fire. The second alarm went to Richard McElliott’s home 1825 La St where a copper gas line loosened near a bathroom stove allowed gas to escape and burn briefly. damage estimated around zero dollars.

Stamp plan action ends legal threat to Kroger Co
A Topeka judge ended legal action against Kroger Co for operating a trading stamp plan. The restraining order was dissolved on condition Kroger posts a $75,000 bond to cover stamp license purchases for 10 Kansas stores.
