Kansas Sampler charged too much tax
Lawrence resident Laura Green noticed extra sales tax after spending about 70 dollars at Kansas Sampler on Saturday. The store untruthfully claimed a downtown special tax district. officials confirmed no such district. Correct rate was programmed, refunds offered to those with receipts or signups, funds not refunded go to state. The incident highlights multiple tax rates in Johnson and Wyandotte counties and potential misentry timing around July 1. The store estimates the error at several thousand dollars with no immediate amount available.
