State school board seeks $50 million funding boost
Two state Board of Education members warned that without a $50 million increase in general state aid for 1990-91, education will suffer and local property taxes will rise. They say teachers’ salaries would not increase and programs could be cut, while the governor’s budget may withhold new education funds. The board seeks approval as the 1990 session opens.

Ruling not likely to trigger changes in Topeka schools
Topeka school system probably won’t face radical changes such as busing after the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled the district has not done enough to remove racial segregation. Attorney Rich Jones said remedies are not yet clear and a private meeting is set for Monday. The panel overturned an earlier ruling and sent the case back to Judge Rogers to fashion a remedy.
