Abduction details of Sinatra Jr. unfold in Tahoe case
Hollywood AP coverage recounts the 54 hour kidnapping of Frank Sinatra Jr. at Lake Tahoe. Two masked men seized the singer in his motel room after a dinner with Joe Foss, triggering a massive federal and local pursuit across Nevada and California. Ransom totaled 240000 dollars, and Sinatra praised authorities for returning his son unharmed. The FBI led the operation with rapid cross state coordination, while Sinatra, sleep deprived, communicated with his ex wife and son during the ordeal. The boy was released near Bel Air, two miles from his mother’s home, after the long sequence of calls and negotiations.

Topeka Man Dies After Stull Road Mishap
A 50 year old Topeka hoisting engineer, Jesse H. Powers, was killed Thursday afternoon when his station wagon skidded off the Stull road seven and a half miles west of Lawrence and overturned. An iron weight in the rear struck him, causing fatal head injuries. Coroner Dr. Jim Reed said the autopsy confirms the head trauma. Powers was returning from a construction job at the Co-Op plant east of Lawrence on K 10. His wife said he used the Stull route regularly. The vehicle left the road on the south side and came to rest on its side after overturning once. A motorist found Powers and the body was taken to a mortuary in Cooper-Warren and planned to be moved to a Topeka funeral home today. This is the 11th Douglas County traffic death this year. Last year saw 12 traffic fatalities.
