John K. Gare, actuary for the Prudential Insurance Co of America, testifies in the New York life insurance investigation. He cites 893,000 in additional benefits paid on death after policy issue, 227,000,000 in premiums and 11,500,000 in earnings outside premiums. Indictment Returned Against Chicago and Alton Railroad

Federal grand jury returns an indictment against the Chicago and Alton railroad company and former officers John Wm Faithorn and J A Wana for allegedly granting rebates to Schwarzschild and Salzberger packing firm and for free transport to its employees. Case stems from testimonies by B S Casey, with prior guilty pleas by four packing house employees. Rebates cited include per car refunds on dressed beef shipments from Kansas City to eastern ports in 1903 and 1904 and passenger fare refunds totaling 3500 for officers and agents between 1903 and 1904.
