Psychiatrists reject gay change therapy decision ends debate
The American Psychiatric Association's board rejected therapy aimed at turning gays into heterosexuals, saying it harms patients and that sexuality is not a disease. Dr Nada Stotland of Rush Medical College led the stance, noting evidence that belief in change can trigger mood and anxiety problems and that the association favors treatment of disease as it is. The ruling follows similar action last year and drew applause from gay activists while critics warned of limiting patient options.
