Secretary Schwellenbach outlines that price and wage controls must be linked and proposes limited wartime price ceilings. Chicago reports Standard Oil of Indiana will raise tank wagon gasoline by 1.5 cents per gallon on December 15, with kerosene and residual fuels up 1.75 and 1 cent respectively. Crude oil prices were increased 50 cents a barrel, affecting Kansas and Missouri. Lawrence bulk dealer Francis Denton confirms the increases raise regular to 24.43 cents and ethyl to 26.7 cents per gallon.
Washington reports a conference committee authorized a $150,000,000 RFC advance to start relief operations in France Italy and Austria once foreign aid regulations are approved. The panel did not resolve the total relief amount with Senate and House differences. Senate proposed $597,000,000 for three counties while the House cut to $90,010,000 with $64,000,000 for China.

Rome faced a second day of clashes as police clubs cleared crowds near the foreign office in Piazza Colonna. Two Associated Press photographers were struck but unharmed. Meanwhile in Jerusalem the Tireh attack left 12 Arabs dead and a rising Middle East toll.
Decorated by France T B Wilson a Jefferson county representative in the state legislature received the Legion of Honor for service to France. He organized Trans World Airlines overseas operations after World War II and helped France relief efforts. Wilson led transportation under Generals MacArthur and Stilwell. He later headed TWA overseas division and chairs an international public relations firm in New York.
The Rev. H. M. Sippel said workers cleaned the interior after a smoke fire in a small storeroom. All services continue without interruption. Current church records were saved while older records and office furniture were destroyed before firefighters stopped the blaze.

Police broke up a Kansas City shoplifting ring yesterday afternoon arresting four African American women from Kansas City after a Lawrence shop tipped off authorities. About $400 in goods were recovered from eight local stores including fur lined coats hats and dresses. Officers credited Patrolmen Henry Smith and Frank Dixon for identifying the car and license number leading to recovery and arrests. The suspects were held for arraignment in county court as merchants urged prompt reporting to curb holiday thefts.
Students backing the drive to send the University of Kansas band to the Orange Bowl meet with Chancellor Deane W. Malott to secure official support. Governor Carlson sent a telegram backing the trip and a $10 contribution. funds totaling about 15,000 are outlined for air fare food hotel and contingencies with 120 people planned including 110 band members cheerleaders and chaperones.

The 94th All-Musical Christmas Vespers will be held at 4 and 7 30 p m Sunday in Hoch Auditorium University of Kansas. The 112 voice a cappella choir directed by Dean J M Swarthout will perform Christmas anthems and participate in a candlelight procession. The program features living tableaux with instrumental ensembles including a violin choir harp violin and organ and the university symphony orchestra performing Siegfried Idyll.
Haskell Indian Institute hosts its annual Christmas Nativity on Wednesday at the Haskell Auditorium. The 16th presentation involves about 200 students faculty and townspeople with Mrs Speelman directing. Stull farmers and the Central Protective association announce two coyote drives west of Lawrence. A 1:30 p.m. meet at the Stull store will start a four section hunt with shotgun use only. A second Kanwaka hunt is planned for December 21 with similar four section coverage.
