Wives Host Bridge Luncheon Tie Lawrence Topeka

A group of 52 Du Pont Company wives held a bridge luncheon at Hotel Eldridge with about half from Lawrence families and half from Topeka families, illustrating Lawrence’s large role in the Tecumseh cellophane plant’s operations. The plant site lies between Lawrence and Topeka, though it is regarded as a Topeka facility, and many workers resided in Lawrence for easier access. The note recalls a 1898 Lawrence Journal line about river ice thickness and harvest timing.
