Roy S. Copenhouser, a 45 year old escapee from the Jess Dunn Correctional Center in Oklahoma City, was arrested after allegedly firing at a security guard who had the guard's handgun. The confrontation occurred near Dale Willey Pontiac Cadillac and 28th Street. A Lawrence police officer returned fire, striking a vehicle window and wounding the escapee slightly. Copenhouser is jailed awaiting charges while a police board of inquiry will review the shooting.
The Supreme Court ruled 7-2 that federal judges may aid plaintiffs in age discrimination cases by locating other possible victims and inviting their participation in class action suits.
