Nelson Gallery Opens as Kansas City Calls for Art to All
Kansas City officials and university leaders discussed Colonel Nelson’s plan to bring art to a broad public. Chancellor Lindley praised the Nelson trust and noted a board of presidents would oversee the gallery’s creation and regional mission. He cited Nelson’s belief that art is a democratic necessity and must be integrated into everyday life across a wide area. The ceremony also highlighted the gallery’s expanded mission to include practical objects of daily living as part of cultural education.
