From Russia to America a Mennonite’s perilous voyage
Henry Rempel tells how about 300 Mennonites fled upheaval in Georgia Russia. A third died from malaria and typhus. Rempel and his sisters survived while many relatives perished. Americans with MCC funded emigration to the United States, with Rempel leaving via Constantinople and Cherbourg to New York before settling in Henderson Nebraska. He later earned a psychology doctorate and served in WWII and in veterans services. Pine Hill Press released his memoirs this week.
