KPERS funding gap grows as unfunded liability climbs
KPERS trustees learned the pension system’s unfunded liability has risen to 1.505 billion dollars after a new valuation method and stock losses. The figure, up 64 percent from 1993, could prompt higher contributions from participants and other plan groups, though officials say it is not an immediate crisis. Milliman & Robertson’s valuation was debated and partly revised before board approval.
